Rockstar Human of the Month

Dear BRAVE Humans,

Today will be the first post of what will become a monthly series, featured every third Tuesday of the month. The series will be called, “BRAVE’s Rockstar Human of the Month.” Within the BRAVE team, we have a little tradition at each of our meetings. At the end of each meeting we award, what we call, “rockstars,” to one another in the group. At the first meeting of the year I give a rockstar (literally a little rock with a star sticker on it =]) to someone I want to celebrate and recognize for their awesomeness. Then, at the next meeting they get to choose someone to celebrate as their rockstar. Each meeting the cycle continues and we add more and more rockstars to the mix! This tradition gives us all space to thank, support, celebrate, and inspire one another every week. So, here, on Living BRAVE, I will continue this tradition and use this blog series to introduce all of you to more of the incredible humans that are part of the BRAVE team and celebrate them and their work to bring the BRAVE mission to life each and everyday.

And, so, that brings me to the first ever Living BRAVE Rockstar Human of the Month - Board Director, Andrea McDermott. I will use this space and opportunity to shine some serious light on all that is truly awesome about Andrea McDermott. She is, after all, one of my MOST FAVORITE HUMANS!!

I hope this post is able to capture, even if only a small bit, Andrea’s compassion, her beautiful soul, and her incredible impact. The entire BRAVE family has benefited from Andrea’s contributions and her relentless kindness and commitment to the BRAVE family and the BRAVE mission. All of her contributions embody hard work, creativity, and true bravery! She is such a natural at building meaningful relationships. And, the relationships she creates are powerful and have the potential to bring more love, positivity and growth to our world. Andrea sincerely cares about ALL those who are a part of her life. At every meeting and at every event -- with every email and with every interaction, she gives 110% in order to best support humans. That is always what is most important to her in the work we do at BRAVE -- supporting the humans who are part of it. There are not many people that live their lives like this. Andrea has a unique and beautiful energy that allow her to do this so well, with such grace and with great consistency. Andrea supports humans in their journey to discovering their own bravery and their own self-empowerment. She is a true BRAVE mentor and a fierce, life-long friend. Team BRAVE is better with her on it!!

It is an honor and a privilege to be presenting y’all with some insights from the one and only, Drea. Here are some words from the rockstar herself!

What does living brave mean to you?

“To me, living BRAVE means to challenge yourself and step outside of your comfort zone. As Meaghan has always encouraged me - embrace the discomfort! Everyday, I try to be kind to all people. Whether they are friends, coworkers, roommates, strangers, whoever - being a good human, being empathetic and caring, are things I try my best to do each day. I think having an attitude of kindness in whatever you face is brave.”

Any inspiration to share with everyone out there trying to live their bravest life?

“My favorite quote is by Marianne Williamson. It makes me feel like I can do ANYTHING, and that any agency or power I need to make the change I want to in this world is all inside of me already. "Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented and fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be?  . . . Your playing small does not serve the world. There's nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure around you . . . And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others." - Marianne Williamson.”

What BRAVE project(s) are you working on right now?

“Currently, I am heading with the Development and Advancement Committee to support the work of our Conference coming up on March 24th. We are working hard to set up great speakers, panelists, and presentations!”

Any final words to share?

“Being a member of the BRAVE family has changed my life. Never have I been surrounded by such supportive, intelligent, and truly good and kind humans in my life.”

First, Dre, I am sending you so much peace and love and good vibes your way, today and always. Thank you for all that you do and for all that you are. Everyone, please feel free to leave her some of your own good vibes in the comments below!
